Spread Christmas spirit throughout your home

Poinsettias are no longer just found on windowsills. With their striking bracts, they bring Christmas cheer to every room in the house, from the living room, even to small designs in the bathroom.

Classic red varieties, in particular, create a warm, festive feel when teamed with candlelight, evergreen branches and natural materials. Nostalgic embellishments, decorative vases and carefully arranged details give the displays extra character, making this Christmas classic a captivating focal point time and time again.

Poinsettia Christmas tree decorations

You can easily add both mini poinsettias and their cut stems to your tree. Arranged in glass test tubes filled with water, their vibrant bracts bring lively splashes of colour to the tree, creating a wonderfully festive feel.

Homemade ornaments made from pine cones wrapped in twine complement this look perfectly, adding a natural, handcrafted touch to your festive decorations.

Craft project: Alternative Christmas tree

Here’s how to make it:

Step 1: Using the cordless drill, make two holes in opposite sides of the log. These will later be used to hold the branches, so should be slightly smaller than the branches’ diameter.

Step 2: Cut one of the branches in half with the secateurs, then insert each half into one of the holes in the log. This creates the base for the tree shape. Tip: Sharpening the ends of the branches will help them to slide easily into the holes while still holding them securely.

Step 3: Ensuring they are the same length, attach the remaining two longer branches to the ones in the holes, securing them tightly using the twist wires and wire twister tool. This creates a triangle to form the stylised tree shape. Tip: The length of the branches determines the proportions of the tree. Depending on the desired look, cut the branches shorter or keep them longer.

Step 4: Place the moss over the branches and wrap it tightly with the binding wire until the tree shape is evenly covered.

Step 5: Decorate the tree with the larch cone branches and secure them with the decorative string. Then attach the wooden star and candle holder with candle. Finally, place the poinsettia in the planter and position it on the wooden log as the vibrant centrepiece of the arrangement.

Poinsettia Advent wreaths

Poinsettias add a touch of fresh colour and vibrancy to homemade Advent wreaths. Compact mini poinsettias, especially, are perfect for stylishly complementing classic Advent decoration. Combined with evergreen branches, pine cones, candles and other natural materials, they create arrangements full of nostalgic charm.

To make it, first attach the first packages to the base with wire, then add more, secured with hot glue.

Creative cut poinsettia Christmas decorations

Poinsettias are not just for Advent wreaths and calendars; they can also be used to create imaginative decorations that bring a festive atmosphere to your home. Cut poinsettias, especially, provide endless possibilities for unique craft projects. To keep their cut stems fresher for longer, immediately after cutting, dip the stems in water at around 60°C (140°F) for about five seconds, and then in cold water. In clean water, they will stay vibrant for up to two weeks.
